HIYA, MY NAME'S JOE WILLIS.
(PRONOUNS: THEY/THEM/'OUR KID')
I'm a Queer Northern writer who uses the vast worlds of genre storytelling to explore the strange, surreal and macabre within the everyday. Often inviting you in through a unique lens of familiar settings, offbeat humour and a bittersweet tone. Think Alan Bennett meets Diablo Cody...for a cup of tea in a graveyard.
My original spec scripts have led to me being selected for the following schemes: BBC Writersroom Northern Voices, BBC Children’s Voices, Screen Yorkshire Flex, XR Stories Residency Labs and BAFTA Connect. I have also written for BBC Sketch Show The Amelia Gething Complex, had short films funded by the BFI Network and my TV pilot ‘It’s My Party’ performed as part of Sky Studios Table Reads.
Currently I have projects in development with Candle & Bell Films and Tyke Films and regularly provide script editing services for BFI Network Script Labs.

"Joe was an absolute pleasure to work with. Incredibly professional and receptive in taking and discussing notes. Joe has a really strong and unique voice and a really fresh take on projects set in the North of England. Can't wait to see what they do next!"
