Joseph 'Joe' Willis (Pronouns: They/Them/’Our Kid’) is a Queer, Northern, genre writer who blends familiar settings, offbeat humour and a bittersweet tone to create work that explores the strange and macabre in the everyday. Think Alan Bennett meets Diablo Cody... for a cup of tea in a graveyard.

Their original spec scripts have led to them being chosen for the following schemes: BBC Writersroom Northern Voices, BBC Children’s Voices, Screen Yorkshire Flex, XR Stories Residency Labs, John Yorke Story Training and BAFTA Connect.

They have also written for BBC Sketch Show The Amelia Gething Complex, had short films funded by the BFI Network and their TV pilot ‘It’s My Party’ produced as part of Sky Studios Table Reads.  They currently have projects in development with Candle and Bell, PDA and Tyke Films and regularly script edit/mentor for the BFI Network Script Labs.

Previously, they ran Les Enfants Terrible Award nominated Danse Macabre Productions, producing and writing genre plays for the Edinburgh Fringe, London Horror Theatre Festival, Crucible Theatre and The Pleasance.

"Joseph was an absolute pleasure to work with. Incredibly professional and receptive in taking and discussing notes. Joseph has a really strong and unique voice and a really fresh take on projects set in the North of England. Can't wait to see what they do next!"
